Of the total, Santos will receive US$59.32m, which is 600% higher than money allocated in 2004. Much of this is allocated to the construction of a perimeter road to serve the 16km of quay in the port, where the aim is to reduce congestion currently afflicting the port and surrounding area.

The M. Dias Branco group expects to open the first phase of its port complex in Salvador, Brazil, in the next three months at a cost of US$83.55m. This forms part of the total investment of US$376m which includes grain storage silos, a distribution centre and factory next to the terminal. The complex, which will cover an area of 300,000 sq metres, will initially have in place a 100,000 ton silo and a 298 metre long berth providing 14-metres draught.
