Jordan port study

The new port is due to open south of the current port in 2012. The study was conducted by BMT Baxter Eadie on behalf of the AYLA New Port Consortium, which is one of four parties preparing a bid to design, build and operate the new port under a 30-year public-private partnership with the Jordanian government.

The current Port of Aqaba is Jordan’s only sea port and is located within 20 kilometres of Egypt, Israel and Saudi Arabia. The Jordanian authorities are hoping that the new port, which will have facilities for general cargo and roll-on/roll-off ferries, will improve trade with the surrounding countries.

The contract is estimated to be worth around $700m.
