LNG throughput up at Rotterdam

The Port of Rotterdam indicated the rise was expected as LNG bunkering is a well-integrated part of operations at the port. It said it expected figures to rise further over the next five years.

“These days, LNG bunkering in Rotterdam is business as usual. As well as Titan LNG, Shell and Anthony Veder have now also registered as LNG bunker specialists in the Rotterdam port.

“The Port Authority is expecting to have ten suppliers within five years and a considerable increase in LNG bunkering.

Timetobunker app

The port’s tool for the electronic submission of planned bunkering is also running successfully following a pilot phase, confirmed the port.

A trial of the ‘Timetobunker’ app was carried out last summer with bunker specialists VT Group, Unibarge, Titan LNG, FTS Hoftrans and Transnational Blenders.

As some 20,000 bunkering operations take place each year, being able to register bunkering operations online enables most of the processes to be automated, said the port.

Bunker specialists in the Port of Rotterdam are obliged to report to the port authority prior to commencing each bunkering operation. Prior to the app, this took place via VHF, but is now carried out digitally, which the port said is a more efficient way of working and provides a more reliable picture of planned bunkering.

The app also allows the report to be submitted to both the port authority and customs (optional) at the same time.
