New Peruvian port at Ancón

Santa Sofia Puertos, part of the Romero Group, intends to invest $270m in building a new port at Ancó n in Peru. Work is scheduled to commence in the second half of 2010.

Currently under way is the environmental impact assessment; at the same time, the company is trying to convince local residents of the advantages of having major new port that will handle both dry bulk and containers. Operations are slated to commence in the second half of 2012. Initially, the complex will handle dry bulk, importing around 2.7 million tonnes of corn, wheat and soya. Around 900,000 TEU a year is also expected to pass through the port.
