New releases heighten productivity

Kalmar straddle carriers continue to develop an environmental focus, with the latest addition being an Electrical Shuttle Carrier, ESH W, which combines higher productivity with lower emissions.

Suitable for manual or automatic operations, the new unit has a variable speed generator and features SCR (specific catalytic reduction) technology plus an electrically-controlled viscous fan.

Available hybrid-ready, the shuttle carrier has an electrical drive and winch hoist, and the hybrid version also has an electrical brake control for optimised energy recovery. Additional options include an energy storage system and a stop-and-go feature which shuts down the engine when not moving.

Kalmar has also recently released UniQ, a customised platform for management of container handling equipment.

It can be adopted module-by-module, starting from improving the productivity of a single piece of equipment to managing complete terminal operations. Further, it can be added to the existing equipment fleet without needing to change overall logistics or layout.

At the same time, Kalmar says that two ship-to-shore crane orders for customers in Mexico and Guadeloupe have been won through its ability to improve turnaround times. Delivery of one crane to Port Autonome de la Guadeloupe in Guadeloupe and another to Altamira, Mexico are scheduled for the last quarter 2010.
