Following on from a successful Coastlink event in 2022, we are pleased to confirm that Nick will once again take on the role of chairing and facilitating the conference which is being hosted by Peel Ports Group in 2023.

Nick stated “Inspired by the location, expertise and engagement of the presenters and attendees at this year’s Coastlink 2022 in Port of Antwerp, I am impatiently anticipating next year’s Port of Liverpool hosted conference. Once again geopolitical events are highlighting the vital role of shipping in enabling global logistics and especially the pivotal interface between coastal waters, ports, and terrestrial transport networks. Whilst so much has been achieved in digitising that interface there is still so much more to be done. I’m in no doubt that Coastlink 2023 will inform, inspire, and progress opportunities to improve the performance of short sea shipping routes, port functionality and the transition to the hinterland. It promises to be an excellent event; do join us!”

With a strong background in maritime and a long naval operational career as the UK National Hydrographer, Nick is a master mariner and a committed proponent of the maritime users’ perspective.

NLA International is a global leader in Blue Economy solutions. Their mission is to champion the implementation of Blue Economies to create sustainable ocean environments for the people and economies that depend upon them. With headquarters in the UK, NLA are currently leading Blue Economy activities in Southeast Asia, Africa and the Caribbean. Numerous reports rightly highlight the potentially exponential socio-economic value of the Blue Economy. Yet some governments – especially, in many cases, Large Ocean States, who potentially have the most to gain as their ocean territories far exceed their land mass – are at very early stages of understanding or grasping these opportunities. NLA’s work focuses on supporting governments and related agencies to articulate, value and maximise the potential of their Blue Economy, at the same time as protecting the marine environment on which blue growth fundamentally relies.

In returning to the 2023 event, Nick will continue the discussions on key topics affecting the industry and will promote engaging debate between the audience and speakers.

Coastlink 2023 will be held at the Royal Liver Building in the heart of Liverpool and overlooking the world-famous waterfront, on the 3 & 4 May 2023. The 2-day event will incorporate networking opportunities for attendees to build and create new industry contacts, a technical visit at the Port of Liverpool, and workshops to collaborate in and drive future development.
