CSP Iberian Bilbao Terminal has taken delivery of a new Super Post-Panamax ship-to-shore crane, significantly increasing operational capacity at the Port of Bilbao.
The newly installed quay crane, the largest of its kind in the Atlantic Arc, is scheduled to become operational in June.
Designed with energy-efficient technology, the crane is said to offer safer, more precise loading and unloading of container vessels while reducing environmental impact.
Its technical specifications include a lifting capacity of up to 83 tonnes under wire rope, a 65-tonne twin-lift capability and a reach spanning 20 container rows. The structure stands at a total lifting height of 56 metres and weighs approximately 1,300 tonnes.
Additional features include anti-collision systems installed on both gantry and jib, along with integrated camera systems to support handling accuracy.
The equipment represents an investment of €10 million by CSP Iberian Bilbao Terminal and was manufactured by ZPMC, a global leader in port crane production. The acquisition aligns with CSP Spain’s long-term investment strategy established in 2016, linked to the extension of the terminal’s concession through to 2049. The purchase agreement for the crane was finalised in October 2024.
This development complements a previous investment of €12.6 million in 2023, which saw the addition of six hybrid rubber-tyred gantry cranes to improve yard operations.
The latest investment underlines the company’s ongoing commitment to the Port of Bilbao and strengthens its role as a key logistics hub within the Atlantic Arc.
