The digital twinning system integrates telemetry and equipment data to provide continuous visibility of assets

STI, part of Hanseatic Global Terminals and SSA Marine, is implementing the digital platform in partnership with NextPort.AI to create a virtual model of live operations.

“This implementation highlights the work developed internally by STI teams in the use and optimisation of telemetry. Thanks to this joint effort, it is now possible to identify in real time the location and key information of the equipment operating at the terminal,” said  Andrés Albertini, general manager, STI.

“This technological leadership, complemented by NextPort’s expertise, gave rise to an integrated solution that strengthens operational management, improves decision-making and enables us to continue driving a more efficient and continuous operation.”

Continuous visibility

The digital twinning system integrates telemetry and equipment data to provide continuous visibility of assets, enabling managers to monitor performance and identify efficiencies across terminal operations.

It provides a virtual and visual representation of the terminal, displaying the distribution of terminal tractors, container handlers and ship-to-shore and RTG cranes.

Users can access terminal activity online, allowing for faster intervention and more efficient process management.

All equipment is fitted with STI’s in-house developed “Black Dog” card, which transmits real-time operational information to a central system for analysis across operations and maintenance.

The data-driven approach is expected to strengthen sustainability outcomes for the terminal lowering fuel consumption and reducing equipment wear, helping cut emissions while reinforcing the terminal’s broader port digitalisation strategy.
