MacGregor has officially transitioned to new ownership under European mid-market investment firm, Triton.
Triton announced its decision to acquire the company in November last year and the acquisition from Hiab (formerly Cargotec) was finalised on 31 July 2025.

Triton brings a long-term growth focus to MacGregor, supporting its continued success across the merchant and offshore sectors.
“We at Triton are very pleased and excited about being the new owner of MacGregor,” said Ilkka Tuominen, investment advisory professional at Triton and board member of MacGregor Group.
“MacGregor has great engineering capabilities, a broad and sustainable product offering, high quality equipment and a strong market position. We especially anticipate strengthening the aftermarket platform where we see great potential.”
MacGregor, established in 1937, has a global reputation with equipment present on every second merchant vessel at sea. Following a successful financial turnaround, the company is positioned for continued growth, backed by a strong orderbook and enhanced service capabilities.
“Having Triton as the owner opens up new opportunities to strengthen the lifetime value we deliver to our customers,” said Jonas Gustavsson, chief executive of MacGregor. “Our lifecycle-focused strategy is closely aligned with Triton’s commitment to sustainable growth and value creation.”
