Igoumenitsa Port, one of Greece’s most vital transportation hubs, is continuing its strategic expansion with the ongoing development of Phase C, which includes the construction of a 610 metre Southern Quay and a 198 metre Annular Dock.

The Grimaldi Group, known for its leadership in the Motorways of the Sea initiative, is driving the project in collaboration with AKTOR and ShibataFenderTeam.

Igoumenitsa Port expands with custom fender systems to support diverse vessel traffic and future growth

To support the port’s growing role in regional maritime logistics, ShibataFenderTeam supplied a tailored mix of fender systems engineered for both RoRo vessels and ferries.

The installation includes 26 Cone Fender Systems (SPC 800, G2.8) with large, closed-box panels (2050 by 2750 mm), 21 Arch Fenders (V-P 1000 by1000 mm, G2.8), 10 Arch Fenders (V 600 by1000 mm, G2.5), and 4 Corner Arch Fenders (500 by1250/1250 mm).

Each fender system was designed with vessel-specific requirements in mind. For RoRo berths, the steel panels feature large chamfers to prevent damage from hull beltings, and shear chains have been added to absorb horizontal berthing forces.

ShibataFenderTeam says the company is supporting the transformation of Igoumenitsa Port into a future-ready, multi-purpose maritime terminal positioned to handle the increased traffic and evolving shipping needs in the Mediterranean.
