The International Harbour Masters Association (IHMA) and the Port of Rotterdam Authority have unveiled the programme for the 15th IHMA Congress, which will take place in Rotterdam from 9-12 June 2026.
Under the theme ‘Connecting Horizons – Building Future Resilient Ports Together’, the four-day event will bring together harbour masters, port executives, technology providers, policymakers and maritime stakeholders to explore the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of ports.
“The response to this year’s call for papers has been exceptional, enabling us to develop a truly high-quality programme,” said HMA Congress chair Gary Wilson.
“We look forward to welcoming participants from across the world for several days of insightful discussion, innovation, and collaboration. It promises to be an outstanding event.”
Proceedings will begin with an opening ceremony on 9 June at Theater Zuidplein, followed by a programme of keynote speeches, plenary sessions, panel discussions, workshops and interactive activities.
The first day will focus on emerging technologies, including a case study examining future port operations in Harwich, alongside expert discussions on marine technology developments, harbour support craft and implementation of the S-100 data standard. Delegates will also attend a reception at Rotterdam City Hall.
Day two will centre on sustainability and feature the launch of the PISCES Pitching Competition. Developed in collaboration with Erasmus University and TU Delft, the initiative will provide students, start-ups and small businesses with an opportunity to showcase innovative technologies that could influence future port operations. The programme will also include keynote presentations and the Port Endeavour game.
The third day will address port resilience, with sessions examining the human and organisational factors that underpin effective port operations. Workshops will be followed by a gala dinner and awards ceremony at the DoubleTree by Hilton Rotterdam Centre.
The congress – which takes place every two years – will conclude with a technical tour of the Port of Rotterdam, giving delegates behind-the-scenes access to Europe’s largest port.
