Tuxpan suspends tender over alleged irregularities

API Tuxpan, the administrator of Tuxpan port in Mexicos Veracruz state, has suspended the tender for the concession of a new container terminal, the port authoritys commercial head José Timoteo García has confirmed to Port Strategy.

Mr Garcia stressed the suspension was temporary and when pressed declined to comment on any possible timeframes.

The administrator had not set an official budget for the terminal. However, local press reports estimated a price tag of 2.50bn pesos ($195mn).

The tender involves building and operating a 51,520m² cargo terminal with a capacity of 90,000 teu for 20 years. The port authority was scheduled to receive offers for the terminal last week, but temporarily suspended the tender after a company involved appealed over alleged irregularities in the process.
