Dockers in ports across six continents took part in a union action day on July 7, including thousands of dockers belonging to the International Dockworkers’ Council, the International Transport Workers’ Federation and the European Transport Workers’ federation.
Under the slogan ‘Defend Dockers Rights’, they acted to highlight issues of vital importance to port workers, such as health and safety, precarious work, right to negotiation and collective agreements, uniform labour standards and automation.
Dockers from more than 40 countries were involved in the protests, many of whom posted photographs and videos to social media with the hashtag ‘defenddockersrights’.
