GL product launch at SMM
This week at SMM 2012, Germanischer Lloyd (GL) launched its latest product, the GL EmissionManager – a software tool which will allow the emission of a ship to be collected, tracked and calculated in detail for the first time.
The product has been designed by GL in cooperation with German shipping company Hamburg Süd. Its systematic and structured design enables ship owners and operators to record reliable data to generate reports for mandatory emission regulations.
Dr Torsten Büssow, head of maritime software, GL, said: “The GL Emission Manager works with data that is already being entered manually today. But because this is not currently being collected in one tool, making additional evaluations and conclusions based on the data is not possible.”
Operational and voyage related data such as position report, departure, arrival and stoppage reports is recorded, analysed. Relevant environmental factors including fuel consumption, emissions to air and garbage is then extracted.
He added: “The GL EmissionManager’s comprehensive reporting capability allows owners and operators to set targets and measure target achievement.”
The software consists of two parts, the emissions recorder component which collects the information and a green server where the data is evaluated and certified. As well as this, the data inventory can check that no reports are missing.
