Kalmar has signed a contract to deliver new ship-to-shore (STS) cranes to Rotterdam Short Sea Terminal (RST) by the end of 2018. The deal includes two wide-span monobox STS cranes, plus the option for two more.
The cranes are specifically designed for RTS’ short sea operation: The containers are loaded directly from the truck and stacked between the STS legs with minimal container moves. Rotterdam’s local Kalmar team will be responsible for crane erection and project oversight as well as additional support for RST when required.
“We have had Kalmar STS cranes in our terminal for many years,” said Mr Cees van Pelt, manager of technical department and projects at RST. “Based on the solid performance of the current Kalmar cranes and the expertise of the local Kalmar team, we are confident that these new cranes will meet our STS productivity targets and help us continue to provide reliable service to our customers."
Kalmar is also to extend its long-standing relationship with Dublin Ferryport terminals (DFT) with another order for Kalmar AutoRTG System, scheduled to start delivery during the second quarter of 2017.
The order consists of two Kalmar AutoRTG cranes with fully automated stack operation and remote controlled truck handling, and forms part of DFT’s investment programme to ensure the terminal is equipped with the latest technologies to support expected growth.
DFT will begin with semi-automated functions which are controlled remotely, and add fully automated features in the stacking area in the future.
