Liebherr focuses on big data
Liebherr is extending its product range of IT tools and services with LiDAT® smartApp – a new telematic system which uses big data analytics to optimise cargo handling performance.
Big data analytics examines large amounts of data to uncover hidden trends, anomalies and other insights. The information can then be used to improve efficiency and drive up productivity.
LiDAT combines crane technology and data transfer logic. The online work cycle detection on the crane records specific values during the crane operation. This data is then transmitted in real time to the LiDAT server centre, where analysis takes place.
The smartApp then displays all relevant data/variables as key performance indicators (KPIs) on any device, including PCs and smartphones. Analysis is then fed back to the crane/driver via for him to act accordingly.
Importantly for operators, the dashboard can be customised by defining important KPIs in accordance with tasks at an individual port/terminal.
By studying the variables over time, operators will be able to gain in depth analysis and enhanced understanding of their operations.
LiDAT smartApp is able to show calculated forecasts (eg display the amount of hours until the vessel is unloaded). Furthermore, it proposes optimisation measures to work more efficiently. For example, if the crane is not positioned to make use of its full handling potential, the system proposes the ideal position and calculates the expected gain in turnover.
Data can also be used to create realistic training scenarios on a simulator where inexperienced crane drivers can improve their operating skills in a safe and monitored environment.
