On the agenda at the Congress

Two hot topics on the agenda at this year’s GreenPort Congress and Cruise conference will be fuel options for SECA compliance and dealing with waste from cruise ships.

Congress 2014

Now in its tenth year, the GreenPort Congress, which will be held from the 7 to 9 October 2015 at DBI-byen hotel in central Copenhagen, will be hosted by Copenhagen Malmo Port.

Included in this year’s programme will be a working group on the options available for SECA Compliance, to be moderated by Malte Siegert, head of environmental policy, NABU, Hamburg.

With the uncertainties surrounding which fuel will allow compliance with existing and forthcoming SECA regulations, this session will endeavour to present the practical options currently available and to offer solutions to keep abreast of the regulations coming in further down the line.

Presentations will include fuel availability and quality with Naeem Javaid, Regional FOBAS Manager, Lloyd’s Register EMEA and LNG Infrastructure for lower volumes with Johanne Solheim, advisor, Norwegian Ports Association.

Meanwhile, on the 6 October at the GreenPort Cruise conference, Thanos Pallis, Secretary General, MedCruise, will be moderating the session entitled ‘Dealing with waste from cruise ships’.

With cruise passenger numbers still increasing, the issue of dealing with the waste from these vessels is still ongoing.

Highlights of this session will include: Responding to new environmental challenges with Bogdan Ołdakowski, Secretary General, Baltic Ports Organization and CEO, Actia Forum Ltd, and science-based and integrated environmental regulations for effective management of ship waste with Dr W Chen, future program development manager, Wartsila Water Systems .
