AD Ports Group, in partnership with Unicargas and Multiparques, has broken ground on the new Noatum Ports Luanda Terminal, one of Angola’s largest port modernisation projects to date.
The project, with an initial investment of US$250 million over the first three years and a potential total investment of US$380 million over a 20-year renewable concession, aims to transform the port into a cutting-edge, high-capacity logistics hub.
“This flagship project reflects our long-term strategy to deliver world-class infrastructure, advanced technology and sustainable solutions that not only enhance trade and logistics but also create meaningful opportunities for the local community,” said Mohammed Al Tamimi, chief executive of Noatum Ports.
“By modernising this vital gateway, we are positioning Luanda as a leading maritime and logistics hub in Central and West Africa.”
Spanning 192,000 square metres, the upgraded terminal will be the only one in Luanda capable of handling Super Post-Panamax vessels (up to 14,000 teu) thanks to a 16-metre draft, three STS cranes and eight hybrid RTG cranes.
Container capacity is expected to increase from 25,000 teu to 350,000 teu while RoRo capacity will exceed 40,000 vehicles.
The 18-month construction period will be followed by full operational readiness in Q1 2027. AD Ports Group will also lead integrated logistics operations through its joint venture, Noatum Unicargas Logistics.
The project is expected to create thousands of jobs, stimulate skills development and support economic growth, while integrating Angola into global trade routes and strengthening its role as a regional logistics powerhouse.
