The Port of Gothenburg has acquired land to enable long-term port expansion, strengthening port infrastructure and supporting future port construction in Sweden’s key logistics hub.
The agreement, signed with Platzer, covers land, office properties and water areas in the port’s outer zone. Valued at SEK 684 million, the deal creates capacity for 210,000 square metres of new terminal space, advancing the port’s long-term development strategy.
“This acquisition is carried out to create conditions for the port’s continued long-term development,” said Göran Eriksson, CEO of the Port of Gothenburg.
”The Port of Gothenburg needs to keep growing in the future, and this is a natural step directly adjacent to existing port operations and surrounding logistics infrastructure.”
Staying competitive
The move is intended to reinforce the region’s position as a leading Nordic logistics hub while supporting industrial growth and global competitiveness.
Continued port expansion is seen as essential to accommodate steady volume increases and evolving supply chain demands.
The acquisition marks a further phase in the port’s westward development, ongoing since the 1970s, including the expansion of the Älvsborg RoRo terminal and the Arendal 2 project.
Nearby, construction of Stena Line’s new ferry terminal, scheduled for completion in 2031, adds further momentum to regional port infrastructure investment. Revenue from existing office buildings within the acquired property will contribute to financing future port construction and development of the site.
The transaction also includes the sale of a logistics property at the port entrance, with ownership transfer expected no earlier than Q4 2026, pending municipal approval.
