Kalmar has established Kalmar Intelligence & Automation to focus on the marketing and development of on-board smart features for container handling equipment, integrated systems and remote maintenance products. Jorma Tirkkonen, formerly head of sales for Kalmar in the US, is president of the new unit.
“The Kalmar Training Centre is part of our strategy of providing continuous learning which we would like to extend to our customers. With the advances in technology there is a need for frontline terminal staff to continue to learn about the best way to operate the equipment.” says Ken Loh, President, Kalmar Asian Operations.
In addition to marketing and R&D activities, the unit’s primary responsibilities include the implementation of automation delivery projects and customer support on a 24/7 basis.
Kalmar intelligence and automation products include Smartrail® autosteering and container position verification system for RTGs; Smartpath®, a container position verification system for straddle carriers and RTGs; Remote Machine Interface (RMI), a monitoring and maintenance system/software for all computerised Kalmar container handling machines and trucks; and Automatic stacking cranes (ASC).
