Crane simulator first for Sri Lanka

The Advanced Crane Simulator has been developed by Applied Research International, a New Delhibased organisation with expertise in knowledge systems, and is designed to enhance productivity and safety in cargo-handling operations through comprehensive training of operators and port personnel in a life-like environment.

The simulator rests on a sensitive three-axis motion platform which recreates all the physical sensations crane operators experience. This combination of high visual detail, sound cues, motion cues and a man-machine interface creates an environment matching real life.

Highlighting special features of the simulator at SAGT, Partha Sanyal, vice president special projects at ARI, said it was a powerful training tool that addressed training needs in all essential aspects of safety and efficiency of crane operations.

“It is highly versatile and can be customised to replicate any crane model and terminal environment. The suite installed at SAGT simulates operations of a Quay Side Gantry for wharf operations and a Rubber Tyre Gantry for container yard operations – both customised to accurately emulate the cranes and the operating environment at SAGT.”

Mr Sanyal added that the simulator has been created using some of the most advanced technologies available to provide a life-like environment, achieved through ARI’s sophisticated graphics modelling of areas and objects like the yard, wharves, cranes, trucks and vessels – all customised to meet SAGT’s requirements.
