Israel proposes offshore port

He believes that the eight square kilometre island will alleviate the hardship in the blockaded coastal strip.

The island, estimated to cost $5bn, will include a port and would be linked to Gaza by a five kilometre bridge. Security checks will be supervised by Israel but would otherwise be run by Palestinians and the international community.

It was reported by the local source that Palestinians have been desperate for a port to connect them to the rest of the world with Israel and Egypt currently maintaining a naval blockade of the Gaza strip to prevent the import of weapons.
