Major operator celebrates surging volumes

PSA International boosted volumes by 9.1% year-on-year in 2018 on the back of “slow but steady” growth in global container trade volumes.

Despite facing an “age of disruptions” in 2019, PSA said it remains “excited” by the challenges and opportunities ahead.

The group’s 40 terminals handled 81m teu in 2018, with Singapore accounting for 36.3m teu (up 8.9%) and terminals outside of Singapore recording volumes of 44.7m teu (+9.3%).

Commenting on the results, group chief executive Tan Chong Meng noted his appreciation to unions, staff and management for their “steadfast dedication and spirited contributions throughout the year” regarding their handling of shifting of liner shipping alliances.
