Marport Terminal unveils new gantry cranes
Marport Terminal in Türkiye has taken receipt of four new ship-to-shore gantry cranes as part of its US$250 million modernisation project.
The terminal in Istanbul handles 2.3 million teu annually, 12% of Turkey’s market share and 19% in the Marmara region.
Ozgur Kalelioglu, Arkas Holding Port and Terminal Services Group president said that the group had invested US$60 million in the new cranes. “Through our investments, we’ve made Marport capable of serving the world’s largest vessels,” he said.
“With the launch of the new SSG cranes, we became the first and only terminal in Türkiye to serve with 14 SSG cranes.”
The new SSG cranes with 25+1 container horizontal reach capability have a lifting height of 54 metres under the spreader, an outreach length of 73 metres and a weight of approximately 1,600 tonnes.
Each has a hoist speed of 90 metres per minute when containers are full and 180 metres per minute when empty.
With a trolley speed of 240 metres per minute, the cranes come equipped with advanced technology systems such as ship profiling and chassis positioning.
