DP World and APM Terminals have announced a strategic partnership at the Southern Container Terminal of Jeddah Islamic Port, with APM Terminals acquiring a 37.5% minority stake while DP World retains 62.5% and continues to lead operations.

The agreement strengthens the long-term collaboration between the two operators, combining complementary capabilities to enhance Jeddah’s role as a critical gateway to Saudi Arabia and a key Red Sea hub connecting Asia, Europe and Africa.

A strategic stake investment aims to strengthen Jeddah Islamic Port as a Red Sea trade hub

“Jeddah Islamic Port is a vital gateway to Saudi Arabia and a key hub in our customers’ supply chains,” said Keith Svendsen, chief executive of APM Terminals.

“We are pleased to invest in the Southern Container Terminal and to deepen our presence in Saudi Arabia through this strategic step. This investment secures long-term access to quality infrastructure and strengthens our ability to support customers with reliable, scalable capacity in the Kingdom.”

Since securing the 30-year Build-Operate-Transfer concession in 2019, DP World has completed significant upgrades to the Southern Container Terminal, increasing capacity, improving operational efficiency and raising sustainability standards.

“Since securing the concession in 2019, we have transformed the Southern Container Terminal into a modern, high-capacity gateway, further strengthening Jeddah’s position as a leading Red Sea hub in support of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030,” said Yuvraj Narayan, Group chief executive of DP World.

The collaboration also capitalises on prior investments by both DP World and Maersk in integrated logistics infrastructure, linking the quay to warehousing, distribution and inland transport.
