Port Nolloth poised for rehabilitation

The project will improve infrastructure for offshore activities, and develop the country’s marine transport and manufacturing industry in line with the South African Government’s Operation Phakisa initiative, to translate detailed plans into concrete results in a quick and effective manner.

Sipho Nzuza, Cape Town port manager, said: “Port Nolloth has historically been overlooked, but this rehabilitation project has seen us invest R7.2m($5.2m) to date of a budgeted project value of R39m($28m).”

The scope of TNPA’s work includes refurbishment of the jetty structure, refurbishment or replacement of concrete where required, refurbishment of quay infrastructure, and replacement of quayside fender systems by TNPA and De Beers Group Services.

TNPA will also undertake revetment works to address erosion of the shore line.

The appointed contractor, Steffanuti Stocks Marine, started preparatory site establishment activities in August 2016.

The project is expected to be completed in October 2017.
