ExxonMobil joins Wilhelmshaven FSRU project

The regasification Heads of Agreement is expected to be long term for the FSRU, which could be in operation as early as the second half of 2022, and has a planned send-out capacity of 10 bcm/a with an LNG storage capacity of around 263,000 cubic metres.

Keith Martin, chief commercial officer of Uniper SE, said: “The Heads of Agreement is an important step towards the realization of the Wilhelmshaven FSRU project. The FSRU will provide LNG companies from the US, but also other countries from around the world with the opportunity to deliver LNG into the German and European market.

“This will increase security of supply for customers at competitive price levels. The FSRU technology allows us to realize the project fast and in the most economical way.”

Multi-user facility

Uniper aims to develop the FSRU as a multi-user facility and consider opportunities with companies that expressed serious interest in regasification capacity in the project. As project facilitator, Uniper will continue to work to obtain permits for the operation of the facility.

Earlier this month, Uniper and Titan LNG signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with a plan to develop a user-friendly technical interface and commercial products for small-scale LNG players from the FRSU.

In December 2018, Uniper entered into an agreement for Japanese shipowner Mitsui O.S.K Line (MOL) to own, finance and operate the FSRU.
