GE Power for LNG carriers

“Dynagas recognizes its responsibilities to the industry to deliver its service in a safe, reliable and economically competitive manner,” said Manos M Migadis, new building project team manager, Dynagas. “The goal of the company, the LNG shipping arm of the George Prokopiou group, is to grow in size and reputation and expand its ability to serve the industry.”

This follows the delivery of two new dual-fuel-powered LNG carriers, Arctic Aurora and Yenisei River, by Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI).

GE Power will supply a fully integrated power and propulsion package that includes a MV7000 series induction motor, alternator, converter, transformers and switchboard.

The company says its MV7000 drive technology delivers efficient and flexible control of electric power, which is some 30% more efficient that steam propulsion.

Dynagas is also due to take delivery of five other LNG carriers over the next two years; all equipped with GE Power’s innovative and energy-efficient variable-speed electrical power and propulsion systems.

Since 2006, GE Power has supplied 37 electrical power and propulsion systems for LNG carriers and says it expects further growth in BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa), and other emerging economies.
