Look out for the GreenPort Congress & Cruise Programme in the summer issue of GreenPort. Hosted by the Port of Antwerp-Bruges, GreenPort Congress & Cruise will take place from 18-20 October in Bruges, Belgium.

This year’s programme spans over three days is entitled ‘Green Solutions for Sustainable Ports by 2030’ and this year GreenPort focuses on how ports and shipping can work together to achieve net zero targets. The first day features parallel Cruise and Congress streams, followed by a second Congress day, which will address environmental and technical challenges affecting commercial ports and terminals.

Hear and learn from the experts within the industry, including Capt Sameer Bhatnagar, Sr Decarbonisation Integration Manager - Decarb Business Development & Innovation, A.P. Moller – Maersk, Linden Coppell, Director of Sustainability, MSC Cruises and Mette Kjems Baerentzen, Product Portfolio Manager, Kalmar.

Get stuck in with the Sustainability in the Port Sector: A Focus on Materiality Assessments workshop run by Dr Christopher Wooldridge (Cardiff University - UK) and Jason Sprott (Sprott Planning & Environment - Australia). The workshop will detail the importance of ‘Sustainability’ for ports - and will include statements on strategic policy from Valter Selen (ESPO), Antonis Michail (IAPH/WPSP) and Herman Journee (EcoSLC/ EcoPorts). Having established the global perspective and the need for collaboration, the workshop will deal with the challenge of linking policy to practice through effective implementation at local level by focussing on ‘Materiality Assessments’ - i.e. identifying the most important issues for ‘Sustainability Strategies’. It will show ‘real-life’ examples of Materiality Assessments and provide participants with the tools to undertake assessments in their own context. An interactive session will draw-out participants’ views on the material issues facing the sector - both now and into the future.
