Megan Turner, Environment and Sustainability Manager at the Port of Dover confirmed as a speaker at GreenPort Congress on the 19th October 2022.

Megan will be speaking on day 2 of GreenPort Congress & Cruise in session 5 Monitoring - How ports can monitor their emissions regarding Biodiversity and Environmental monitoring at the Port of Dover. The Port of Dover (PoD) handles £144 billion trade and 33% of all UK trade with the EU. With 120 daily ferry movements, it is capable of clearing 110 miles of freight traffic per day, making it a vital part of the EU-UK trade route. It is also home to an award-winning cruise terminal, cargo terminal and marinas. In order to monitor any impact these activities may have on their surrounding environment PoD has an extensive and rigorous monitoring programme, that has been in place since 1992. Within her presentation Megan will cover all of the surveys Port of Dover currently undertake, the methodologies as well as any interesting results and hurdles the port has had to overcome to establish this monitoring programme. They will also cover how this monitoring programme has helped them develop the port safely and control their impacts on the surrounding environment.

Megan Turner (BScHons) is the Environment and Sustainability Manager at the Port of Dover. She has worked at the port for 3.5 years and has been responsible for calculating the ports carbon footprint and producing SECR (Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting) reports during this time. She has also been involved in a range of energy projects; she was instrumental in delivering Dover’s first PAQS (Ports Air Quality Strategy), producing an ESOS report (Energy Saving Opportunity Scheme) and collaborating with project partners to deliver the Dover Clean Ferry Power Project (Clean Maritime Bid funded project). Alongside this she has experience in, ISO 14001 implementation, environmental compliance and regulation, waste management and a wide range of biodiversity monitoring.
