LA tops Descartes’ US port ranking

According to a report by Descartes Datamyne, which provides an import-export information database and is run by the Descartes Systems Group, the Californian port’s ocean imports last year were 4.7m teu, while its import value in 2017 was $250.3bn.

Those values constitute a teu and value change, in comparison with 2016, of 3.1% and 3.9% respectively.

California’s Port of Long Beach came second in Descartes Datamyne’s report, entitled U.S. Port Report: The Top 20 U.S. Ocean Ports by Import Volume, with ocean imports in 2017 of 3.8m teu, while the Port of New York came third, importing 3.3m teu via the ocean last year.

Georgia’s Port of Savannah came fourth in the ranking, with 1.9m teu of ocean imports in 2017, and Virginia’s Norfolk International Terminals came fifth with 1.2m teu for the same statistic.

The ports of Boston, Mobile and New Orleans came 18^th, 19^th and 20^th in the list respectively.

Washington’s Port of Tacoma marked the biggest decrease in teu of any of the 20 ports, with a teu change from 2016 to 2017 of -15.6%.
