Liebherr completes New York crane upgrade
Liebherr has concluded a major upgrade project at Port Liberty (formerly Global Container Terminals) in New York.
The container cranes supplier has increased the lift height and extended the boom tip on three of the four Liebherr ship to shore container cranes (STS) at the port, with work on the fourth crane being completed in the coming weeks.
Liebherr’s team of engineers increased the lift height of the STS cranes by 8.6 metres and extended the outreach by 5 metres, enabling the cranes to handle larger vessels.
Using its own patented jacking system – which uses the crane’s end carriage as a base eliminating the need for additional equipment – the entire extension was completed in just a few weeks, meaning minimal disruption to terminal operations.
Liebherr Transform is a dedicated upgrade and modification service helping ports and terminals around the world boost productivity, reduce equipment downtime, and achieve faster turnarounds.
