Mobile harbour crane first for Vietnam

The crane will help Gemadept Corporation in its drive to modernise and increase capacity at the Nam Hinh Vu Port in Haiphong, northeast Vietnam.

The crane will be delivered in its main components, fully assembled onsite and commissioned in Q1 2024.

“Our operation just keeps on growing and we need the latest equipment to support it,” said Do Cong Khanh, deputy chief executive, Gemadept Corporation.

“We will redeploy our previous Konecranes mobile harbour crane at one of our other terminals and increase capacity at NDV with a new Konecranes Gottwald Generation 6 Mobile Harbor Crane.

“It will provide the right performance, flexibility and ergonomic design to boost our productivity for many years to come.”

Located at the most important commercial transport hub in the region, NDV is one of Gemadept’s major port projects.

The order is for one Generation 6 Konecranes Gottwald ESP.6 Mobile Harbor Crane, with a working radius of up to 49 metres and a maximum capacity of 125 tonnes to serve container ships up to Panamax class. In comparison to the Model 4 crane it is replacing, it has a higher tower cab for a wider view of vessel operations, stronger lifting capacity curves to improve handling rates, and a higher lifting capacity for heavy cargo handling.

The crane is powered by a diesel engine with optimised fuel consumption to minimise emissions. Training for onsite technicians is included in the order.
