The last few years have been marred by the Covid-19 pandemic, supply issues and global conflict, but they have shaped the way we are working towards delivering future and clean energy needs, both to clean up the port sector and to decarbonise shipping.
In the medium and long term, legislation, demand and cost are all challenges to be overcome as the world makes its energy transition and there will be much more help and support needed from governments along the way if the world is to hit its global emission targets.
But there are some short-term quick wins that ports can take now in order to clean up their operations and take advantage of the opportunities arising from the need to decarbonise, as the Port of Tyne can attest too.
