The Bilbao Port Authority has unveiled its 2025–2030 Digital Transformation Plan, a comprehensive €18.1 million programme designed to modernise the port’s technological infrastructure, reinforce security measures, improve operational efficiency and strengthen the competitiveness of its logistics ecosystem.
Presenting the plan to the port community, Ivan Jimenex, president of the port authority, stressed that digitalisation offers a major opportunity to build a more connected and sustainable port capable of meeting sector challenges.
“Digital transformation is not about replacing people, but about providing our teams with better tools, automating processes and raising the technological level of the port,” he said.
“Our goal is to position the Port of Bilbao at the digital forefront of the Atlantic Arc.”
The plan is structured around 17 strategic projects, covering six key areas: infrastructure and connectivity, automation and AI, security, digital workplaces, information systems, and logistics and transport.
According to the authority, the programme will cut operational times and costs, enhance traceability, strengthen cybersecurity, optimise logistics planning, support environmental sustainability through more efficient technologies and deliver more agile digital services for companies and operators.
With ports worldwide accelerating digital adoption through IoT, 5G, automation, AI, digital twins and advanced traceability tools, the initiative is expected to place Bilbao among the world’s most technologically advanced ports and prepare it for the next stage of growth.
